Why buying copywriting services can be
an expensive mistake!
One question business owners ask me often is “Chris should I hire a professional copywriter and use their copywriting services to craft my copy?”.
And my answer may surprise you.
Because while at first glance it might seem like a good idea to pay a professional to write your sales copy for you - after all, they are the experts - it’s actually not always the best choice for you.
Apart from anything else, even if you do decide to buy in copywriting services, you still have to learn what good sales copy looks like so you know your copywriter is delivering the goods. And the best way to learn what good copy looks like it to practice writing it.
That aside, here are 3 more reasons why I think it’s almost always better to write your own copy:

- No one is going to care as much about your company copywriting and your results as you are. Whilst there are many ethical and scrupulously honest copywriters out there, it’s also true they won’t value your business in quite the same way you do. That’s understandable, but it does mean there’s a good chance you won’t get the 110% dedication you’d give it yourself. They’re in the business of providing you copywriting services, and they almost never guarantee you results.

- Despite the fancy testimonials you see, even the best copywriters have a success rate of about 1 in 8. That is, of 8 campaigns they work on, only one is extraordinarily successful. Generally this one pays for the failures of the other 7, and then some; but if you’re the one footing the bill for these failures, then their copywriting services are a good way to spend money with no appreciable return on your investment. So if you buy in copy writing services, be prepared for a long slog before you make any money.

- Even the very best copywriter isn’t YOU. He won’t sound like you, and he won’t write like you. They can sometimes come very close to having your voice, but there is always a difference. That means when your customers finally get to meet you or hear you first-hand, there’s a kind of dissonance, an incongruity. That unconsciously breeds mistrust and can lower sales. In this instance, buying in the copywriting services have actually harmed your business.
